"Al Shafar General Contracting estimates turnover to double in 2005 - Current projects
valued at Dhs. 1.5 billion" (Gulf News - 6 April, 2005)
Al
Shafar General Contracting (ASGC) – one of Dubai 's leading construction companies – is confident that the construction
boom in Dubai is here to stay. The company which has completed several prestigious projects in the emirate doubled its turnover
in 2004 compared to the previous year, and expects this trend to continue in 2005 as well.
Having completed the Ministry
of Public Works building as well as Phase 2 of the Greens for Emaar, ASGC was also awarded Sector 6 of Jumeirah Beach Residence,
Al Shatha Tower, and the Mohamed Saif Al Shafar Tower- that will be one of the UAE's highest residential towers at 67 floors
when completed. The company is currently at the finishing stages of building the Dubai Police Head Quarters. ASGC's current
projects are valued at about Dhs 1.5 billion.
“The construction industry in the UAE, especially Dubai , is growing
at an extremely rapid pace, and is in fact, one of the highest contributors to the country's economy,” said Emad
Azmy , Managing Partner of Al Shafar General Contracting. “The combined factors of a buoyant economy, population
growth, increasing focus on tourism and high profile events that has captured the world's attention, has fuelled the need
for a constantly expanding infrastructure, all of which has accelerated the growth of the construction industry.”
Azmy
attributes the current status of ASGC from a relatively modest operation of nearly 20 years ago to the fact that
the company places a lot of emphasis on quality and timely delivery and not the least to the safety and welfare of its workforce
which today total about 4500.
“It is an extremely competitive market with companies that are far bigger than
ASGC,” acknowledges Azmy . “However, with the assurance of quality, use of state-of-the-art technology
and delivering of projects on time has gone a long way in helping us to establish ASGC as one of the most reliable and reputable
construction companies in Dubai. In addition, safety at our sites is a top consideration where we have safety engineers present
at each project all the time.”
